The majority of experts concur that the typical lifespan of equipment used in commercial kitchens is 10 years. The machine's model and the level of maintenance it receives affect the lifespan, though. While maintained properly machinery can last much longer than 10 years, and some appliances even have a 25-year lifespan.
A lack of proper maintenance is usually to blame. Preventive maintenance can undoubtedly be cost justified. By addressing minor issues before they grow into larger, more expensive ones, preventive maintenance not only increases the lifespan of your equipment but also saves you money over time.
A service contract is one of the wisest business decisions you can make. The less frequently your equipment breaks down, the less your customers' service is interrupted, and the less money you lose.
Review your owner's manual first. Each piece of equipment frequently comes with unique care and handling guidelines. It is best to become familiar with your restaurant's equipment by reading the owner's manual in order to fully comprehend how to use and maintain it.
Repair any damaged parts as well. After years of use, parts and components become worn out. It is crucial to have a professional technician fix any broken or noisy components as soon as you notice them. Your commercial kitchen equipment can last for many years if you keep up with maintenance and take the initiative.
Maintaining your equipment's cleanliness and sanitization will help stop the buildup of debris, rust, grime, and food particles that can lead to equipment failure. Equipment in a dirty kitchen slowly deteriorates over time. However, you can lessen the risk and increase the equipment's lifespan if you are regularly cleaning and sanitizing it. Always use mild soapy water to clean stainless steel appliances. Review the owner's manual or get in touch with a pro if you're unsure how to clean and disinfect your appliance.
If your equipment is in need of a part replacement, you’re in luck. K&D carries parts and manuals for a slew of brands from Accutemp to Welbilt. Our incredible inventory includes 1 million in stock parts so that we’ll have the right part on hand when you need it. If we don’t have a part, we order it immediately to be shipped to you or to any one of our seven locations.
We also offer preventative maintenance agreements to help keep your equipment in the best working order. With regular maintenance service, you’ll avoid the pitfalls of unexpected repairs and equipment downtime. You’ll also notice your equipment is running better and more efficiently and that it will last longer than equipment that isn’t regularly maintained.
In addition to your cooking equipment, we specialize in commercial refrigeration equipment with technicians who specialize in servicing and repairing your commercial fridges and freezers.

Monitored pressures and they were good for 404 refrigerant. Checked superheat at 5 degrees, and it was good around 12 degrees. Instructed staff to make sure they do not block the supply and return air grills inside walk in. Freezer is working properly at this time.

Arrived at location on 2/11/22 - Found compressor not running when I arrived, Checked all starting components and compressor and all tested to be good, I found that the contactor when I tapped it pulled in and all components came on and were working, I tapped contactor again and it chattered and went off until tapped again, I determined contactor to be bad which I replaced from truck stock, Unit compressor is very hot while running causing unit to come down in temperature slowly, unit condenser is still full of grease, compressor may need to be replaced in the future but condenser coil will also need replaced because of being compacted with grease, unit is working for now at 18 degrees when I left.

Arrived at location on 2/14/22 - griddle leaking grease down left side by grease tray. Checked over, found small amount of build up above tray that could cause grease to migrate away from tray. Arrived at location on 1/24/22 - found walk in box at 15 degrees. Evaporator coil was iced up on both sides and both fans were running. Removed all ice and went to condensor unit. Condensing unit did not have a disconnect at unit so the breaker had to be located and shut off to kill power to the fans. Checked pressures and they were good for 404A. Unit is designed for 10-12 degrees of superheat and I had 12 degrees at a box temp of 5 degrees. The door leading into the walk in was not shutting properly. When closed it would leave about 1” gap. This can cause ice to build up on the coil. I adjusted the door so it would close properly. I also found a very pitted contactor at the condensing unit. Replaced with one from truck stock. Tested defrost and all was okay except the the grasslin timer wheel was very stiff when turning to set correct time. This also could cause ice to build up if the clock was to get stuck and not go into defrost. I did not have a grasslin but replaced with a pa
